要旨/Abstract
Existing research highlights the link between biodiversity and mental well-being but lacks clarity on the underlying mechanisms, especially in cultural and topographical contexts. This study, conducted in Chongqing’s urbanizing mountain city, aims to explore these links. Two hypotheses were tested: 1) increased biodiversity improves perceived environmental quality, thus uplifting mental well-being, and 2) perceived biodiversity and topographical diversity directly bolster mental well-being with restorativeness as a mediator. Through questionnaires in five park greenspaces (N=298), the findings show a strong connection between perceived environmental comfort and mental well-being. Interestingly, perceived topographical diversity had a greater impact on well-being than biodiversity. Restorativeness is a key mediator, promoting attachment andspiritual well-being.This research emphasizes the pivotal roles of environmental quality, topographical diversity, and restorativeness in urban green spaces for mental well-being, and provide novel perspective for biodiversity-mental well-being pathways.
